Are you inspired by nature? Would you love to create silver jewellery with leaves, shells, acorns, seed pods, twigs etc? Then this workshop is for you!
One of the benefits of working with metal clay is that it can be moulded, textured and shaped. This makes it perfect for working with natural materials and on this workshop you will learn lots of ways to make heirloom jewellery incorporating the beauty of nature.
Metal clay, if you haven't heard of it, is a material made from 100% recycled silver, organic plant-based binder and water. This means that it can be moulded and shaped like clay. It is then dried and fired where the magic happens! During firing the piece sinters to form a solid piece of hallmark quality silver.
This workshop is perfect for beginners to working with metal clay and will give you all you need to be able to make your own nature-inspired creations at home, whether for yourself or as a business.
Techniques you will learn include:
1. Using silver paste to paint leaves. The leaf burns away during the firing process leaving a perfect copy in 100% recycled silver
2. How to make your own bespoke moulds from grasses, leaves, acorns, shells, twigs, daisies etc
3. How to use your moulds to create silver pieces including earrings, charms and pendants
What you need to bring to this class:
For this class, you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided. However, you are welcome to bring along any natural materials you have e.g. shells, leaves, grasses etc. For shells, we recommend nothing larger than 1.5cm. If you are bringing leaves, flowers, grasses etc, do pick these at the last minute and bring them in a tupperware lined with damp kitchen roll. Dried items will often crumble.
But please don't feel you need to bring anything. We will have lots of items for you to choose from!
General Info:
As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
