Learn the art of pavé setting
We are very excited to be offering this advanced level stone setting course where you will learn the art of pavé setting. Taught by expert stone setter and experienced jewellery tutor Stephen Barnett.
Pavé is a type of stone setting where lots of small stones are placed next to each other and held in place by small 'beads' of metal' that are created bu carving away the metal we don't need leaving micro claws that hold the stone in place.
As the claws are so small it allows the stones to look almost like the are floating next to each other and can create a really detailed, professional and fine look to your work.
What level is this class?
This is an advanced level class and we recommend students are confident in bezel settings, collet settings, claw settings and flush settings before moving on to this technique. All of these course can be found in our stone setting courses here >
What do I need for this class:
We recommend bringing and optivisor which is a magnifying headband so that you can see the finer details in this micro setting work. If you are unsure of the one to get, many students use the 2.5 x magnification one from Cooksongold (No.5). All other tools and materials will be provided.
What will be covered on the day:
- How to measure and mark out your settings
- Drilling and creating the seats for your stones using burrs
- Setting straight-line pavé a row of 6 or more stones
- Trouble shooting, common mistakes when setting and how to overcome them
- Throughout the day you will have plenty of time to practice and set your stones.
