Learn to make your own princess cut mount and set the stone in this advanced level 2 day stone setting course taught by stone setting tutor Stephen Barnett.
A princess cut stone is a square shaped faceted stone and a great choice for modern cocktail rings or engagement rings. It is the most complex of our collet setting courses so we recommend completing the round and pear-shaped collet setting courses before taking this course.
Taught by advanced stone setter and expert tutor Stephen Barnett, this two day course will give you an in-depth practical experience of creating your setting for a princess cut stone as well as setting the stone.
What level is this class?
This is an advanced class. All students are required to have completed the round collet setting course and soldering masterclass or equivalent elsewhere.
You need to be confident in collet setting round stones, soldering, sawing and filing silver.
What you will learn on the class:
- Assessing a princess cut stone for collet setting
- Measuring and building a collet setting from sheet silver
- Preparing the setting using burrs and setting tools
- Soldering the finished mount to a ring or jumpring
- Setting the stone
What do I need for this class:
You will need to bring an optivisor which is a magnifying headband so that you can see the finer details in this micro setting work. If you are unsure of the one to get, many students use the 2.5 x magnification one from Cooksongold (No.5). All other tools and materials will be provided.
General Info:
As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea, coffee and snacks! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this, or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
We look forward to welcoming you into the studios soon.
