Creating shaped claw settings
A brilliant follow-on from the 1 day Claw Setting (Round) class. This class will build on those basic claw-setting techniques and teach you to make simple claw and basket settings for shaped stones.
Spend the morning learning different-shaped claws, oval, pear, cushion cut. Followed by creating a finished claw set shaped pendant in the afternoon.
What Level is this Class?
This is an intermediate level class and students are required to take the round claw setting class or equivalent beforehand.
Before joining this course we recommend you are confident with basic stone setting, creating and setting a round claw setting and working in the workshop including sawing, filing and soldering silver.
What you will learn:
To select and measure your shaped stones for claw setting
Creating claws for different popular shaped stones
Creating the setting from wire
Attaching the setting to a jumpring to create a pendant
Using burrs to cut the seat for the stone
Setting the stone
If time allows some basic techniques for polishing and finishing your settings.
General Info:
As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea, coffee and snacks! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
