Take your enamelling skills further!
In Level 2, you’ll explore wet application techniques, giving your pieces richer colour, depth, and new ways to play with texture. This is a day for experimentation, discovery, and unlocking more creative possibilities with enamel.
This class is suitable for those who are new to enamelling but we do recommend that you have completed Level 1 first, as that class is designed to give you a good understanding of the properties of enamel and how it works which will benefit you hugely going forwards!
Wet Application
This class focuses on wet application techniques. Working on a fine silver square (with options to add texture and saw pierce shapes), you’ll explore:
How to wash and grind enamel to prepare it for application
Applying enamel with a brush and blending transparent colours together
Techniques to avoid bubbles and reveal the full depth of colour
The primary technique that you will learn is Basse-taille. This is adding texture to your metal and enamelling over the top, which gives a beautiful depth to the colours.
If there is time we’ll also cover foiling.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a finished enamel pendant, plus plenty of ideas for using colour, texture, and light in your own designs. This workshop is perfect for those wanting to deepen their skills, experiment creatively, and explore the many possibilities of enamel jewellery.
What to bring:
Everything you need is provided and there is no requirement to bring anything additional. However, you’re welcome to bring your own silver metal clay creations if you want to experiment with your own designs (optional), as well as sketches, colour inspiration, or design ideas.
Good to know:
All materials, tea, coffee and snacks are included. Our friendly tutors are professional jewellers with years of experience, and class sizes are kept small (max 8 students) so there’s plenty of one-on-one guidance.
We’ll take an hour for lunch — you can bring your own or pop out to nearby cafés and shops.
We recommend completing Enamelling Level 1 or having equivalent experience with enamel and dry application techniques before booking this day.
