If you’ve loved exploring colour and texture in our earlier enamelling classes, Cloisonné is the perfect next step. This beautiful technique uses fine silver wire to draw delicate outlines that are filled with rich, transparent enamel — creating vibrant, detailed designs that shimmer with depth and light.
This class is ideal for anyone who has completed Enamelling Level 2 or has some previous experience working with wet packing enamel applications. You’ll learn how to plan, build, and finish an intricate enamelled piece from start to polished perfection.
What you’ll learn:
How to form and bend fine silver wire to create outlines and patterns
Apply a layer of clear enamel to your fine silver base and fire it in the kiln
Use Klyr-fire (a natural binding glue) to hold your wire design in place — it burns away cleanly in the kiln
Add colour using transparent enamels and fine brushes for precision and depth
Grind and polish your piece to achieve a smooth, glass-like finish
Throughout the day, you’ll work on a fine silver disc to create a beautiful, detailed piece of jewellery that showcases the precision and artistry of Cloisonné.
By the end of the class, you’ll have a completed enamelled piece and the confidence to continue exploring this traditional yet endlessly creative technique.
