Experience the magic of Mitsuro Hikime — Friday 17th - Saturday 18th April 2026
Mitsuro Hikime is having a moment in the jewellery world, and it’s easy to see why. Makers everywhere are captivated by the hypnotic, flowing textures and sculptural possibilities this technique offers. Every piece is unique, full of movement, and mesmerising to look at — and once you try it, you’ll understand why it’s so addictive.
This one-off, two-day masterclass is your chance to immerse yourself in the process, experiment freely, and create pieces that truly stand out. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced jeweller, you’ll leave inspired, confident, and brimming with new ideas.
Learn the full process — including making your own Mitsuro wax
An ancient Japanese wax-modelling technique, Mitsuro Hikime uses a soft, handmade wax to create intricate, organic textures and flowing forms.
In this class, you’ll learn to make your own Mitsuro wax from scratch — the very foundation of this historic technique. You’ll then explore the signature forming and stretching methods that turn the wax into flowing, striated surfaces, perfect for striking, sculptural jewellery. You will leave with the skills to continue making and creating with Mitsuro Hikime wax at home.
About your tutor — Lorna Romanenghi
We’re thrilled to welcome Lorna, Anglo-Italian goldsmith and tutor, who is travelling all the way from her studio in rural Italy to lead this class.
Trained by Master Goldsmith Scott McIntyre and holding an Honours degree from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Lorna blends traditional bench skills with contemporary design sensibilities. She has a particular passion for alternative techniques — including Mitsuro Hikime, Keum-boo, and titanium colouration — and loves helping makers of all levels develop their skills and confidence at the bench.
Lorna’s teaching journey began at Vanilla Ink CIC Jewellery School in Glasgow, where she progressed from Jeweller in Residence to Workshop Manager and Cultural Director. Her approach is hands-on, encouraging, and tailored to each student, so you’ll receive expert guidance while also having space to experiment and develop your own creative ideas.
