Wax Carving Jewellery Evening Class - 5 weeks

This is an evening course running one evening per week over 5 consecutive weeks.

Would you like to learn how to use wax to make metal jewellery?

Learn the age old technique of lost wax carving - a fascinating way of making silver and gold jewellery by carving shapes out of wax, then creating a mould of the wax, melting the wax and pouring molten silver or gold in to make a solid silver version of your wax mould. A great class for anyone interested in making jewellery.

In the class you will learn how to design pieces for wax carving to take advantage of this flexible material. You will then learn how to carve and shape the wax to create your pieces ready for casting. Casting is the process where the wax is melted down and replaced by the metal of your choice e.g. gold, silver, bronze etc. This process is done by a casting company and we will organise this for you. The following week the wax designs will come back in metal ready to add any finishing touches and be polished ready to wear.

Students will be able to make a number of designs throughout the course as well as learning the techniques.

Additional costs:

We will administer the casting as part of the course but you will need to pay for the pieces you have cast in silver, gold or other metals. As a guide most silver rings cost around £10-30 and smaller pieces such as earrings and pendents are often around £5-12 bigger pieces will be more but the tutor will always check the price with you before casting.

General Info:

As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class (except casting costs for this class) as well as plenty of tea, coffee and luxury biscuits! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.
