Wax Carving Level 2 - Cabochon and Flush Stone Settings in Wax

This exciting wax carving course has been designed to help you further develop your skills in wax carving using the age old technique of lost wax carving. In this class you will learn how to incorporate stone settings for round or oval cabochons or faceted stones into your wax carvings.

Over the course of the day, you will learn how to carve a basic stone setting and seat out of wax using various carving tools to accommodate different sizes and shapes of stones.

This is an intermediate level course and it is designed for those that have attended Wax Carving 1 plus some projects on your own before enrolling on this course.

In this intensive 1-day class, all students will learn to carve and shape the wax to create a simple rub over setting for a round or oval cabochon, or round faceted stone. You will complete at least one finished rub over setting ready for casting, and, depending on progress, may have time to start a second setting which you will be able to finish at home.

• Qualities and properties of different forms of wax

• Using wax carving tools to achieve your designs

• How to carve recesses for different sizes and shapes of stone

• Making finished wax carved masters ready to cast

• Full information on how and where to get your wax pieces cast and much more...

As this is a one day class the casting is not included in this class but you will be given recommendations on casting companies and what to do with your wax.

As with all of our classes, all materials are included in the cost of the class as well as plenty of tea, coffee and snacks! The classes are all run by expert tutors with years of professional experience who are friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The size of the classes is kept small to allow plenty of one-on-one attention and the maximum number of students for this class is 8.

We take an hour break for lunch and there are plenty of local shops to get food from, or you can always bring a packed lunch to eat in the studio. If you have any questions regarding this or other courses please don't hesitate to get in touch.
