Make Your Own Wax Carved Ring
We’ve got four taster classes, each covering one of the most popular jewellery-making techniques: traditional silversmithing (stacking silver rings), wax carving, beading and silver metal clay. Want to try them all? Add all four to your basket and use the code TASTER50 to save £50!
Looking for a fun, creative way to spend an afternoon or evening in Brighton? In this relaxed beginner-friendly class, you’ll design and carve your own unique ring — no experience needed at all!
You’ll spend a couple of hours in our beautiful studio, learning the basics of wax carving (a technique used by jewellers all over the world). With help from our expert tutor, you’ll shape your design in soft wax, and we’ll then take care of turning it into a solid silver ring for you after the class.
This is a brilliant activity to try on your own, with a friend, or as a thoughtful gift. Whether you’re visiting Brighton or live locally, it’s a lovely way to switch off, get creative, and make something truly personal that you’ll treasure for years.
Please check the time of your class below — we run both daytime and evening sessions, depending on the date!
What to expect
You’ll be welcomed into our light-filled studio, just moments from the beach.
After a short introduction to the tools and process, your tutor will guide you through:
• Measuring and sizing your ring
• Shaping and carving your wax using hand tools and heat
• Adding surface textures or marks to personalise your design
• Learning about the casting process and how jewellers turn wax into metal
We keep all of our classes small (max 8 students) so you will be learning in a small group, with lots of one-to-one support.
By the end of the class, you’ll have created your own wax ring design which we’ll send away to be cast in solid sterling silver.
You’ll leave your wax model with us, and we’ll have it professionally cast, polished and finished for you. Your silver ring will be available for collection (or posted to a UK address) within three weeks of the class.
How casting works
We use a process called lost wax casting to turn your wax design into solid metal pieces. Here’s how it works:
Your wax ring is sent to a specialist casting company.
A mould is created around your design, and the wax is melted away.
Molten silver is poured into the mould to take the place of the wax.
Once cooled, your silver ring is removed, cleaned up, and polished.
We use a professional casting company — just like working jewellers do — and we’ll walk you through the whole process so you understand how your design becomes a finished silver piece. It’s a great introduction to how jewellery is made behind the scenes, and the perfect first step if you're thinking about learning more.
Who it’s for
This class is designed for absolute beginners — no experience needed at all! You might be someone who loves jewellery, enjoys being hands-on and creative, or just wants to try something new in a friendly, welcoming space.
You’ll be taught by an experienced jeweller who will guide you every step of the way. All materials are included in the price of the class, along with plenty of tea, coffee and tasty snacks to keep you going.
If you fall in love with wax carving (and many do!), this class is also a great introduction before joining our Beginners Wax Carving course.
