Learn the art of pavé setting
We’re very excited to offer this advanced stone-setting class where you’ll learn how to create a cluster pavé design using the grain-setting method.
Pavé (pronounced pa-vay) comes from the French word for “to pave” — the idea being that the metal surface is paved with tiny stones. When they sit closely together and are held in place by delicate beads of metal, the effect is a continuous, shimmering surface of sparkle.
It’s a lovely technique to learn to your work that detailed, professional, fine-jewellery finish.
What level is this class?
This is an advanced level course. We recommend students feel confident with bezel, collet, claw and flush settings before moving on to pavé.
What you’ll learn on the day:
How to map and mark out a balanced cluster design
Drilling and using burrs to create accurate seats for your stones
Raising grains with a round graver to secure the stones
Beading and refining the grains for a clean, polished finish
Troubleshooting common pavé issues and how to fix them
Throughout the day you’ll have plenty of time to practise — and you’ll create a beautiful cluster pavé pendant to take home.
